Fresh fish at seaside town shocker!

Since moving to the glorious North Devon coast, I have been a little disappointed in the lack of fresh fish available in town. Ilfracombe does not have a fishmongers,and buying fish up until now has involved either a 30minute drive to Barnstaple, or a trip to the local Tescos.
Imagine my delight at discovering one of the towns well kept secrets, there is a local fisherman who parks in town on a wednesday morning at 11am, and for roughly 10 minutes opens his van doors to reveal a mobile fish counter.
Last week we feasted on fresh mackeral - caught just off the goldcoast here - less than 24hours out of the sea. An absolutely divine fish supper! This week we served our guests with fresh plaice poached and with a light butter sauce. If super fresh fish is your thing Wednesday evenings is the night for eating at The Elmfield.
